(AP) ? The U.S. is heaping new pressure on Russia to change course and support international action in Syria, warning that intransigence by Moscow may lead to open civil war that could spill across the Middle East with devastating effects.

Speaking on Russia's doorstep in Denmark, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton derided the Russian government for continuing to support Syrian President Bashar Assad, even after last week's massacre of more than 100 people in the town of Houla. In pointed remarks Thursday, she said Russia's position "is going to help contribute to a civil war" and rejected Russian officials' insistence that their stance actually is helping to ease the crisis.

On the first stop of a European tour, Clinton said Russia and China would have to be on board before the U.S. and other nations might engage in what could become a protracted conflict in support of a disorganized rebel force.

Russia, along with China, has twice vetoed U.N. Security Council sanctions against Syria. Russia is Syria's closest ally other than isolated Iran, and Clinton said that without its support the international community is essentially frozen from taking concrete steps to end the violence.

"The Russians keep telling us they want to do everything they can to avoid a civil war because they believe that the violence would be catastrophic," Clinton said, noting that they are "vociferous in their claim that they are providing a stabilizing influence."

"I reject that," she said, complaining that in fact Russia is propping up Assad as his government continues a brutal, 15-month crackdown on dissent in which some 13,000 people have died.

A day earlier, White House Deputy National Security Adviser Denis McDonough said the U.S. is lobbying Russia to distance itself from its ally Syria and to apply pressure on Assad to leave office. A negotiated exit similar to one the U.S. helped broker for Yemen's longtime leader is one possibility, McDonough said, but he offered little optimism that the arguments are gaining traction.

The Obama administration has called on Assad to step down and clear the way for a political transition. But mindful of a war-weary American public, it has stopped short of advocating direct U.S. military engagement in the country and stressed the need for diplomacy, particularly with Moscow, which continues to sell weapons and provide political support to Assad.

In Washington, despite revulsion over the Houla massacre, officials said the administration remains deeply concerned about the possible consequences of military action. But as the violence continues, they acknowledge that planning for some sort of intervention is under way.

Two Western diplomats told The Associated Press that top U.S. and British commanders and intelligence officers visited the northern Jordanian city of Ramtha recently and toured the area along the Jordan-Syria border to assess the possibility of a limited land attack. But it was decided that air attacks would be best, considering the mostly bushy terrain and climate conditions, the diplomats said.

Still, Clinton told reporters after meeting top officials in Denmark, a key contributor to last year's NATO-led mission against Moammar Gadhafi in Libya that "we're nowhere near putting together any type of coalition other than to alleviate the suffering."

"We are working very hard to focus the efforts of those, like Denmark and the United States, who are appalled by what is going on, to win over those who still support the regime, both inside and outside of Syria."

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, in remarks to reporters traveling with him Thursday to a conference in Singapore, said he does not see the U.S. taking military action in Syria without the backing of a U.N. Security Council resolution.

"No, I cannot envision that," Panetta said when asked about military action without U.N. backing. Still he said that all options remain on the table and that the Pentagon is planning for "any contingency."

At the White House, press secretary Jay Carney was blunt in describing the risks posed by the protracted standoff with Assad.

"The longer this goes on, the longer that Assad and his thugs are allowed to brutally murder the Syrian people, the more likely it becomes a sectarian civil war, the more likely that it spills over Syrian borders," Carney said. He listed another risk, of a "proxy war" with Iran backing Assad and other outside nations or forces backing insurgent factions.

The prospect of such a proxy war or a sectarian conflict along the lines of Lebanon is a major reason the United States is leery of arming the Syrian rebels or edging toward direct military involvement, though U.S. officials rarely say so.

Jordan has concerns about its territory, the Turks worry over Kurdish terrorists operating from inside Syria and neighboring Lebanon's is still struggling to emerge from decades of sectarian civil war and political instability.

Still, Moscow's calculus doesn't appear to be changing. Russia did begin inching away from Assad, particularly after the massacre in which dozens of women and children were among those shot at close range by pro-regime gunmen. And Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this week that while both sides are to blame, Assad "bears the main responsibility for what is going on."

However, he also said the Houla massacre must not be a pretext to push for military intervention from outside. Instead, he urged all sides to focus on U.N. mediator Kofi Annan's peace plan, which by all accounts has failed to stem the violence.

Other than Russian opposition, there are other hurdles to armed intervention, U.S. officials said.

Clinton said Assad's foes lack the unity that the anti-Gadhafi camp eventually rallied in Libya. Syria's professional military and substantial air defenses also would make intervening far more difficult. And whereas in Libya the U.S. was able to count on the support of Gulf countries in monitoring a no-fly zone and carrying out some airstrikes, the Arab League is split on whether military options should be entertained in Syria.

"We know it could actually get much worse than it is," Clinton said. "We are trying to prevent that." Clinton underscored her support for the U.N. mediation effort, which she said had had some positive results even though none of its six points have been achieved. She stressed that U.N. observers have performed two important functions.

"In many of the areas where they are present, violence has gone down," Clinton said. "And they serve as independent observers, the eyes of the world if you will, in reporting back when terrible events like the recent massacre occur. They've tried to cut through the clutter and disinformation coming from the Syrian government."

She spoke as activists reported more shelling in the central Houla area.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the Local Coordination Committees activist groups said Thursday's shelling of Houla was mostly by heavy machine guns. Survivors of last week's massacre blamed pro-regime gunmen for the close-range shooting of civilians in their homes, though the government denied the involvement of its troops.

Carney said the U.S. can't deal with Syria by itself.

"There is no question that as mighty as the United States is, that we cannot end all atrocities around the globe," Carney said.

The United States must approach world problems with an eye to its own national security interests and to what is possible to achieve, Carney said, while "making sure you're not taking actions that create unintended consequences that are bad for the United States and bad, in some cases, for the very people you're trying to help."

Intel details 14 dual-core Ivy Bridge processors ahead of Computex

Intel announced its quad-core Ivy Bridge processors in April, but we've known that dual-core CPUs must be on the way too. And alas, the chip maker does have some up its sleeve -- 14, to be exact. Core i5 and Core i7 versions will be the first to ship, with Core i3 processors launching later this year along with new Pentiums and Celerons. Of the 14 dual-core processors, six are desktop-grade. The rest are mobile, though four are ultra-low voltage (which will be denoted by a U at the end of their name). Computex is just around the corner, and we expect to see plenty of Ivy Bridge systems -- especially Ultrabooks with ultra-low voltage CPUs -- there next week. In the meantime, we've already reviewed the Lenovo ThinkPad x230, a system running a dual-core 2.6GHz Core i5 Ivy Bridge processor. If you're into the nitty-gritty details, you'll find plenty to love in the Intel slides below the break.

Surprise shower rains out BP out at Marlins Park

(AP) ? Rain washed out batting practice Wednesday at Marlins Park.

And yes, the $634-million ballpark has a retractable roof.

The roof was open when a rain cell developed over the ballpark nearly four hours before the start of the Marlins' game against the Washington Nationals. Showers fell for nearly 15 minutes before the roof began to close.

Curious players emerged from the clubhouse to watch as the grounds crew scrambled to cover the infield with a tarp. Puddles quickly accumulated on warning track, and thanks to a spillover from the field, muddy water soon stood eight inches deep in a photo bay near the Marlins' dugout.

The aquariums behind home plate were unaffected.

"The fish are laughing at us," a security guard said as the rain fell.

The weather cell sprung up unexpectedly, Marlins vice president Claude Delomme said, and there was a delay in closing the roof because of safety issues.

"We have to make sure everything has been clear," he said. "But as soon as we saw there was a cell right above us, we covered the infield. As long as we do that, that's all I care about."

Batting practice was canceled, just like old times for the Marlins, but the game was unaffected.

Because of South Florida's heat and frequent rain, the roof has been closed for all but four games. But it's otherwise open most of the time so the natural grass can be exposed to sunshine, and the field drains quickly after a shower, Delomme said.

"We designed it as an open facility, because 97 percent of the time it's open," he said. "For us to get rain actually is a good thing. It's going to happen a few times a year that we're going to get surprise cells."

Pakistan jails doctor who helped find bin Laden: why the US may not intervene

The doctor who helped the CIA find Osama bin Laden has been sentenced to 33 years in jail. But perhaps?US-Pakistan relations have fallen so low that the US doesn't care anymore.?

To Pakistan, Shakil Afridi is a traitor who helped a foreign power locate and kill an enemy on its territory. To the US, Dr. Afridi is a hero who will now, apparently, spend the next 33 years of his life in prison.

The US lobbied hard with the Pakistani government to gain Afridi?s release. US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, during a February 2012 visit to Islamabad, urged Pakistani authorities to release Afridi, but Pakistan declined. Given the substantial public anger in Pakistan over the bin Laden killing ? more about the US?s violation of Pakistani sovereignty than for sympathy for the man ? Pakistan sealed Afridi?s fate.

Now his sentencing marks another low-water mark for the US-Pakistani relationship, and highlights how little common ground the two countries share. But expectations for each side are now so low that it?s unlikely the US is going to adopt another full-court press as seen when another US spy ? Raymond Davis ? faced detention in Pakistan.

Think you know Asia? Take our quiz?

To be sure, Afridi?s Pakistani nationality also means the US isn?t going to view his detention in quite the same leave-no-man-behind terms. And the US does not have the same legal arguments of the Geneva Conventions as it did in the case of Mr. Davis.

But there?s also much less riding on the US-Pakistan relationship than even a year ago when the Davis affair erupted. NATO has managed to keep the Afghan war effort going, despite Pakistan cutting off supply lines through its territory. Then, too, trust has evaporated since the discovery of bin Laden in Pakistan and the unauthorized US raid to kill him.

Roller coaster ride

America has had a roller coaster relationship with Pakistan for years. In the 1980s and early 1990s, the US and Pakistan were as thick as thieves, funding, arming, and training Afghan and Pakistani fighters to take on the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. After the Soviets withdrew, and after Pakistan successfully tested a nuclear device, the US imposed strict military sanctions against Pakistan, and left that country with tens of thousands of former militants, thousands of politically charged Islamic seminaries, and a Pakistani economy addicted to foreign aid.

Today, the US and Pakistan have spent a decade ostensibly fighting on the same side against Islamist extremist groups ? some of whom use Pakistan?s less-well-controlled corners, such as Swat and Northern Waziristan, as their bases ? and yet it is not clear how much these two countries share in common anymore.

Digital Flux Live Wallpaper [Live Wallpaper Review]

Digital Flux Live Wallpaper

Continuing our live wallpaper reviewing extravaganza is another from masterful wallpaper developer, D'Keesto. This entry in the "digital" series is called Digital Flux Live Wallpaper, and while it's definitely cool, I have no idea where the "flux" comes into play. (That's okay, though.)

Instead of embers or honeycombs or anything of that sort, you've got rectangular prisms that move up and down, seemingly at random. Touch the screen and they'll either be pushed down or pulled up (depending on what you pick in the settings). It's all very mechanical, and reminds me of that crazy complicated choreographic dance that happened at the Olympics in Beijing. (You know, the one with the people underneath the boxes!)

The settings menu is a bit simpler than some of D'Keesto's other offerings, limiting you to a mere two colors (and utter dominance by your color in slot one), but you can still pick from all sorts of different single colors or have the colors go off of the battery level.

There's also some performance options, like adjusting the camera zoom, turning anti-aliasing on or off, or enabling accurate shadows. Depending on your device, you might change these settings around, but with close camera zoom, anti-aliasing off, and accurate shadows on, I didn't see any performance issues as I slid and swiped from screen-to-screen. Of course, your mileage may vary.

If bouncing boxes are you thing, Digital Flux Live Wallpaper is the wallpaper for you. It's inexpensive, runs well, and has just enough customization to keep things interesting. I'm not quite sure where the digital aspect comes into play (especially compared to Digital Hive and Digital Embers), but maybe it's just a name continuity thing. Regardless, as far as live wallpapers go, this one certainly doesn't disappoint.

Digital Flux Live Wallpaper is a mere 99 cents in the Google Play Store. We've got download links, screenshots, and video after the break.

Though it's clearly targeted at the education and enterprise markets, could Samsung's Chromebox be a compelling option for the Engadget reader? Can it transcend its cloud-based workstation origins? Is it a better choice than an entry-level Mac mini? Find out in our review after the break.

Tropical Storm Beryl moves ashore in northeast Florida

Winds notched up to 65 miles per hour in Florida, where more than 100 people were pulled from ocean waters because of riptides. The Weather Channel's Jim Cantore reports.

By msnbc.com staff and news services

Updated at 12:34 a.m. ET: -- Tropical Storm Beryl began to make landfall early Monday, bringing heavy rain and high winds to northeast Florida, Weather Channel meteorologist Mike Seidel said.

The center of the second named storm of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season moved ashore near Jacksonville Beach at around 12:10 a.m. EDT, the National Hurricane Center said.

The estimated intensity of Beryl at landfall was 70 mph.

Prior to landfall, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration station in Mayport, Fla. reported sustained winds of 44 mph and a wind gust of 59 mph.

Earlier Sunday, Gov. Rick Scott urged Florida residents in the affected areas to "stay alert and aware."

The powerful pack of thunderstorms prompted tropical storm warnings along the coast in northern Florida, Georgia and parts of South Carolina, disrupting Memorial Day weekend plans for some beachgoers and travelers.

?

Beryl was expected to bring 4 to 8 inches of rain to parts, with some areas getting as much as 12 inches. Forecasters predict the storm surge and tide will cause some coastal flooding in northeastern Florida, Georgia and southern South Carolina.

Campers at Cumberland Island, Fla., which is reachable only by boat, were told to leave by Sunday afternoon. The island has a number of undeveloped beaches and forests popular with campers.

Tropical Storm Beryl has residents in Georgia and Florida bracing for drenching rains and driving winds. The Weather Channel Mike Seidel reports.

However, many people seemed determined to make the best of the soggy forecast.

At Greyfield Inn, a 19th-century mansion and the only private inn on Cumberland Island, the rooms were nearly full Sunday; all guests were planning to stay put through the wet weather, said Dawn Drake, who answered the phone at the inn's office on the Florida coast.

In Jacksonville, Fla., Mayor Alvin Brown ordered a state of emergency, ending the Jazz Festival early and urging people to stay out of the water and off the streets, News4JAX.com reported. Workers are also out clearing tree limbs and debris that could be tossed about by the storm's winds.

"We are encouraging all residents to stay indoors," Brown said at a Sunday morning news conference at the Emergency Operations Center.?

Strong waves batter Folly Beach Pier as Tropical Storm Beryl brushes past the South Carolina coast on Sunday.

But business was booming at the Red Dog Surf Shop in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., where customers flocked to buy boards and wax in anticipation of the storm's high waves. Officials all along the coast warned of rip currents, waves and high tides ? all of which can be dangerous but also tend to attract adventurous surfers. The waters had already become dangerous in South Carolina, where rescuers were searching for a missing swimmer.

Watch the most-viewed videos on msnbc.com

In Jacksonville Beach, Fernando Sola said business was booming at his Happy Faces Ice Cream truck. A bus- full of tourists from South Carolina had stopped to buy some ice cream and watch the storm waters churn.

"There are actually more people than on a normal day. It's working out great," said Sola, taking a few moments away from scooping ice cream to people lined up in front of his truck.

Steady, heavy winds kicked up sand across the area, forcing onlookers to shield themselves with towels.

Jessica Smith and Chester Jaheeb decided to brave the waters despite many warnings for people to stay out. Jaheeb, who was born in India but lives in Jacksonville, said he had never experienced a tropical storm before.

"We were at a certain part that started pulling us out, like the rip current, so we decided to come to shore," said Smith, 17.

Taylor Anderson, captain of Jacksonville Beach's American Red Cross Volunteer Lifesaving Corps., said his lifeguards went body-surfing early Sunday to get acclimated with the surf conditions for what looked to be a long day. They also reviewed methods to determine where there might be riptides.

"They look for discoloration, the water moving paradoxically back to sea, and our lifeguards are trained to spot that, to keep people away from that, especially when the surf is this high. It makes those run-outs very dangerous. People can get sucked into those very fast, especially with the high surf and the high wind," he said.

Though the weather was calm earlier Sunday, Anderson's lifeguards began preparing other equipment in the morning. They packed sandbags in front of the entrances to the oceanfront Red Cross lifeguard station and pulled lifeguard stands off the beach.

As the winds picked up, officials hung two red flags, one warning of dangerous ocean conditions and the other notifying beachgoers that swimming was prohibited. But a lot of people ignored the warnings. By 3:30 p.m., Anderson said, lifeguards had made 150 "preventions," meaning lifeguards ordered 150 people out of the water, though no rescues were necessary.

One of the people ordered out the water was Christian Siciliano, 14, of Jacksonville Beach. The surfer said the waves were too rough for surfing so he, his brother and a friend decided to go boogey-boarding.

"We just went out to, like, mess around," Christian said. "It was really rough. I didn't make it out too far, about 10 feet."

He said the waves were so powerful it was difficult to paddle against them. Then lifeguards raced to the area and ordered him and the two other youths from the water.

Joe Murphy, a spokesman for the Ritz Carlton in Amelia Island, Fla., said he was not seeing a flood of checkouts or people trying to get off the island. Outdoor dining had been moved inside and the hotel set up movies and family game activities, but the hotel had no plans to board up or move patio furniture inside.

Tropical storm warnings were in effect for the entire Georgia coastline, as well as parts of Florida and South Carolina. Once Beryl comes ashore, it was expected to continue dumping rain over parts of Florida and Georgia on Monday before heading north and then out to sea. It was expected to weaken to a tropical depression by Monday night.

On Tybee Island, a barrier island not far from Savannah, water off the beaches was closed for swimming Sunday. Tybee Island fire Chief C.L. Sasser said winds of up to 42 mph were creating "horrendous water currents." Only people with flotation devices strapped or tethered to their bodies were being allowed into the water, and they were being cautioned not to venture in farther than knee deep.

"Even if you're standing in waist-deep water, the current can sweep you out quickly," he said.

His ocean rescue team pulled a total of 48 people from the water on Saturday, he said, including about 27 that were considered to be in life-threatening conditions. One man who was sucked under the water was rescued by friends and onlookers and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

A band of showers soaked the beaches late Sunday morning, causing crowds to thin, Sasser said. With alternating rainy and sunny weather forecast throughout the day, he said he expected the crowds on the sands to ebb and flow.

In South Carolina, Janice Keith with the Myrtle Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau said Sunday that the office hadn't fielded any calls from concerned tourists.

In Beaufort County, emergency management deputy director David Zeoli said officials were continuing to monitor the storm and encourage people to have a plan in case conditions get worse.

Zeoli said winds had kicked up in the area that includes Hilton Head Island, a popular golf and beach destination. "It's just a wet day here," he said.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.

Yahoo News Item on N.J. Mayor's Arrest Avoids Party ID; Short AP Item Waits Until Final Paragraph

If for no other reason than the uniqueness of the alleged crimes involved, the story of the arrests of West New York, New Jersey Mayor Felix Roque and his son deserves attention. It is getting some, complete with the predictable downplaying and omission of the Mayor's political party affiliation, which "just so happens" to be as a Democrat.

Since it's currently appearing at Yahoo News, which is the Internet's most popular news site, with an estimated 110 million unique monthly visitors, Alex Fitzpatrick's Thursday report on the mayor's arrest which originated at Mashable.com is worth calling out, especially because in almost 300 words, Fitzpatrick failed to identify Roque's party. Get a load of what this guy and his son allegedly did to protect their jobs:

Story Continues Below Ad ?

A New Jersey mayor and his son were arrested Thursday by?the FBIfor allegedly infiltrating and sabotaging a website tied to an effort to recall him.

The story gives a new and troubling definition to the term "political hack."

The FBI has accused?Felix Roque, mayor of?West New York, N.J., and his 22-year-old son of illegally canceling the domain name registration of?Recallroque.com, a site that wanted?Roque?taken out of office in a recall election earlier this year, according to?Politico.

... Roque's 22-year-old son Joseph was the mastermind behind the hack. According to a criminal complaint made public this afternoon, he learned how to penetrate email accounts and Recallroque's host, GoDaddy.com, by searching for instructions on the web.

Roque, however, didn't stop there. After taking down the site, he called the owner of the site, who was identified only as a government official in Hudson County, N.J., to intimidate him. Roque told the owner that the site was removed by "high government officials" and that "everyone would pay for getting involved against?Mayor Roque."

He also said he had a friend at the CIA, which is how he "got information" ...

These guys are real pieces of work. They should have been ID'd as Dems.

Over at the Associated Press, things were a little better. Roque got identified as a Democrat in the final paragraph of an unbylined five-paragraph story on Friday afternoon. Readers can be quite confident that if Roque were a Republican, his political affiliation would have been mentioned far earlier, in the story's headline -- or both.

Men in Black 3 Movie Review

I saw the original Men in Black movie so long ago that my memories of the film might as well have been zapped with a neuralyzer (that's the memory-erasing device the guys use in the movie, for those of you who are also having trouble recalling the original). What I did retain is that the film was funny, fresh, and silly and that it didn't hold up very well for the 2002 sequel. With that in mind, I had low expectations for Men in Black 3, but the newest installment is just as much fun as the original, and it actually benefits from the 15-year time lapse.

The script for the film is one of its biggest assets and truly sets Men in Black 3 apart from its predecessors. The aliens are still alive and ickier than ever now that they're in 3D, but the story is more focused on the friendship between J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) and how it has evolved over the years. We learn early on that K has been keeping a secret from J all these years, and the mystery drives a wedge between the partners. Meanwhile, a treacherous alien named Boris the Animal (played to hilarious perfection by Flight of the Conchords's Jemaine Clement) breaks out of maximum-security prison and goes back in time to get revenge on K, who arrested him back in the '60s. The day that K had Boris locked up is the key to K's secret, so J heads on a mission back in time to save K and learn the truth.

To see why Men in Black 3 is so much fun, just?read more.

Will Smith hasn't been in a movie since 2008's Seven Pounds, and I didn't realize I missed him until I found myself giggling all the way through Men in Black 3. His shtick is still the same (he's one-liners still consistent of dialogue like "Where did you come from? Planet damn?"), but you can't help but love Agent J as he bumbles through the '60s, desperately trying to sell his story to people who don't recognize him ? or believe him. You can tell that Smith feels completely comfortable in the role, and in the signature suit, which still looks perfect on him, as he hasn't aged a day.

Tommy Lee Jones is ever the reliable curmudgeon, but the film mines extra laughs when J travels to the '60s and meets a much younger version of his partner, played by Josh Brolin. Brolin looks enough like Jones to pass for him, but it's really his studied delivery and mannerisms that sell the performance. We also get some insight into how K has evolved over the years (he's always had a penchant for cowboy music, but he also used to be a bit of a dreamer), giving the film an extra layer to the enjoyable banter between J and K.

I'm not usually one to gush about 3D, but the special effects really come to life in Men in Black 3 in a way they never did in the first two movies. Not only do the aliens look creepier than ever, but the cartoonish feel of the film is taken to the next level with the 3D aspect, especially with the time-travel thrill-ride element. Much like with the 3D movies from my youth, I found myself shrinking in my seat just to avoid being too close to the alien goo, blood, breath, and beyond. Combined with the welcome return of Will Smith, you've got yourself a fun, mindless blockbuster.

PM Visits the Top of World Trade Center 1

To get to the top of the World Trade Center 1 building, currently under construction in New York adjacent to the 9/11 Memorial, you must first ride in an elevator scaffolded to the outside of the building up to the 39th floor. Then you walk inside and wait with a gang of construction workers for one of the two internal elevators to take you the rest of the way.

When a few members of the PM crew got a tour of the site last week, one of those elevators was labeled "Express Rush A.M and P.M. Only," while the other was labeled "Express All Day." We packed into the all-day express with a full car of iron and concrete workers carrying bags of breakfast up to their fellow crewmembers, only to hear the gruff elevator operator announce that, due to the amount of traffic that day, we were going semi-local. The loud, industrial elevator cranked up through the center of the building to the sounds of a boombox playing Katy Perry on a pop radio station (the ironworkers seemed unimpressed). At each stop, the elevator operator greeted his colleagues with a friendly bouquet of colorful language before asking them for a destination.

Finally, the elevator reached its current top floor, number 90.The ironwork is completed up to the 100th floor. Just two weeks ago, WTC1 became the tallest building in New York at 1271 feet, and it still has 5 floors?and a controversial antenna mast?to go.

You can walk up to floor 91, but above that WTC1 is currently a skeleton of steel beams and cranes. The staircase hangs off the side of the tower, dangling you above the city in a way that would paralyze anyone with the slightest touch of vertigo. Claustrophobics, too, would have a hard time, since the last six-foot ascent to floor 91 is up a ladder banged together from two-by-fours, then goes under a low-hanging steel beam. Debris falling from this height could be deadly to people below, so there is netting surrounding the whole floor; the fabric forms a translucent wall that gave me the bizarre feeling of being both inside and outside at once. There are plenty of holes in the netting, though, which I presume were made to stick cameras through; which I do, knowing that nothing but a firm grip keeps my new Sony NEX-5N from recording its own spectacular last fall.

The partially constructed walls of the building's central column were crawling with workers. Hunter Pendarvis, our guide from the Port Authority?which oversees the project?says there are over 1000 people employed on WTC1, welding, weaving rebar, and securing the massive steel forms into which the building's concrete is poured. The workers clip into the rebar with giant carbineers attached to their harnesses. We were allowed to roam pretty much freely and watch the work, but we were also politely asked not to interview the workers?the unions don't want their guys wasting time with reporters. So we spent about an hour up there getting showered with sparks and generally trying to keep out of the way. Hopefully the photos capture some of the awe that we felt watching history being built before our eyes.

Tim Cook is reportedly making Apple more corporate

A recent feature in Fortune took a deep dive into how Tim Cook has been changing Apple's inner-workers, corporate culture, and relationships with the outside world. The general conclusion gleaned from many anonymous Apple employees is that things are drifting more towards traditional, stiff corporate lifestyle, which is welcomed by some, but not by others.

Fortunately there?s no right or wrong response here. It?s your financial, money and time, use when you remember to.

I love to examine mine generally every day. 2 or 3 times in paydays. Typically My partner and i awaken, clean the actual slobber away my personal confront along with sign straight into my personal internet banking to get started on my own morning off correct. The idea gives me any comfort to make certain the amount of money is still there, the right withdrawals happened, tissue come in spot and that there is absolutely no funny activity. After examining my own cash situation out there, following My partner and i have a glass involving java (which has already been prepared for me by simply our expensive coffee brewer) and sign in to find out my personal weblog numbers. Completely double enjoyment.;)

Somewhat it is possible to say I am dependent on my blog site numbers and internet based consumer banking balances. Nonetheless, you can find reasons why you should get on internet bank accounts more frequently than not really:

Enjoying the action involving Mistake Finding

You?re working difficult your money can buy, and the thing you don?t want is the cash as well as another person benefiting from your hard earned dollars. We?ve human and that we make mistakes, and so do the personal computers. Simply no system, coverage or procedure is perfect. Inside your find blunders would be to look at your own balances often sufficient. Logging upon once per month will not likely perform the truck We assure you.

Your irritating element is that you simply have to keep examining your current is the reason another person?s unintended errors that may wind up being costing you money. Problems are made continuously along with the best to lessen your mistakes is simply by tracking your banking company accounts.

Coincidentally I buy a similar experiencing right after visiting into my own blogging and site-building statistics. It gives me in which added ?umff? and also the ?OK? that I?m doing something right.

Whether it?s personal debt, savings, RRSPs, TFSAs and other expense company accounts, you too can get inspired if you see people amounts transferring a new path you want. Seeing people sums increase slowly and gradually each week, maybe credit card debt go down lower lower, offers some powerful goods.

Get today by way of example. We soaked with this early morning along with found in which our RRSP bank account caused it to be over the $2,500 tag. This transformed us in along with influenced me to write down this tiny submit. I am just satisfied with our little bi-weekly advantages and seeing a good spherical amount prefer that can make it most worthwhile.

It doesn?t matter whom you lender using, whether it be a sizable lender this type of Discover internet banking or perhaps your community lending institution online banking you can find influenced. The beauty of spending less (and never coming in contact with the idea) is that it merely goes one way Up!

I?ll be honest below, That?s not me attempting to break open your own percolate, but conserving money rather than pressing it?s an acquired ability. The faster a person comprehension the idea, begin to take action along with inhale that every day * the more personal savings you may attain more rapidly. You may be contemplating today; ?Give myself a number of cool-aid that this guy will be consuming, because obvious? and i also go along with you, unfortunately I don?t have any cool-aid to discuss, due to the fact My spouse and i isn?t having virtually any. I am just acquiring this easy notion currently and have already been for the past?.almost a couple of years today. I recently want I got myself straight into this easy concept in the past.

Therefore that?s why My spouse and i check out my records every single day. I love being aware of what my own cash is as much as, and I would like all the motivation because i could get. It takes only A few seconds regarding time as well as the inspiration is actually precious.

Thus, to you: How often would you look at the bank accounts?

JB Williams ? Reform ? Making Illegal Immigration Legal ? CITIZEN ...

Governments have never been known to reform themselves and the current debate over immigration reform is no different than the notion that government will cut spending and clip its own wings. By reform, D.C. politicians mean, to make that which is currently illegal, legal.

Lawmakers have been stopped from passing amnesty for millions of illegal aliens living in America. But they have not been forced to enforce our immigration and naturalization laws and even when Border States attempt to enforce those laws, the federal government sues the state on behalf of illegal immigrants.

In a current piece issued by the Census Bureau, titled Minorities now surpass whites in US births, Bureau racial statistics chief Roderick Harrison states ? ?This is an important landmark.? ? ?This generation is growing up much more accustomed to diversity than its elders.?

Of course, most of those ?minorities? are in the United States illegally. This is of no great concern to Harrison. But what does concern Harrison is this ? ?We remain in a dangerous period where those appealing to anti-immigration elements are fueling a divisiveness and hostility that might take decades to overcome,? Harrison said.

For several years now, Americans have been wrongly accused of being ?anti-immigration? just because they want their immigration and naturalization laws to be enforced. But calling someone anti-immigration because they oppose illegal immigration is akin to calling them anti-banking because they oppose bank robbery.

Like many sniveling liberals today, Harrison completely ignores the fact that we are talking about criminals here, people who have broken into our country illegally and make a career out of flouting our laws and undermining American sovereignty and security. Harrison is not at all concerned with these facts, he is instead worried about Americans ?hostility? towards illegal invaders, as if Americans oppose immigration altogether.

America is an immigrant nation. But we are also a civilized society of laws. Under the false claim that Americas immigration and naturalization laws are just too stringent and unfair, progressives like Harrison spread false notions to support their call for immigration reform, otherwise known as blanket amnesty for all illegals and the end to American sovereignty and security.

Which unfair immigration and naturalization requirements should we get rid of???

Are you surrounded by inconsiderate co-workers?

What one person views as inconsiderate, another will see as perfectly acceptable behavior. Are your employees lacking business etiquette and common courtesy??Look for the following signs:

  • Phone abuse.?Employees text message or check email during meetings. Their cellphones ring during meetings, or they talk loudly on their phones in common areas.
  • Offensive behavior.?They may tell or forward inappropriate jokes or watch offensive videos on their computers. They use obscenities and profanity in work settings.
  • Tardiness and absenteeism are problems.?Employees show up late for meetings or miss team events. They take personal time at the last minute, often leaving co-workers in the lurch.
  • Common areas are messy.?If your break room is filthy with dirty dishes in the sink and muck-covered counters, people aren?t respecting their teammates? right to a clean space.
  • You?re constantly refilling and restocking.?When people fail to refill the coffee pot, printer ink, or paper and other supplies, they aren?t taking their co-workers? time into consideration.
  • Confusion and misunderstandings are the norm.?You notice a lot of back and forth over email. Mistakes are abundant, and people don?t seem to be on the same page.
  • Technology is misused.?You learn that employees are embroiled in conflicts via instant messaging or email. An employee bad mouths a co-worker via a social media network.
  • People are flat-out rude to one another.?Arguments break out. People speak over and interrupt one another. There is little collaboration and cooperation.

If one or more of those items apply to your work environment, your team can use some lessons in workplace etiquette and courtesy.
