To ex-American star Moldoveanu, job market is 30 NBA teams
Vlad Moldoveanu isn?t so different than the legion of recent college graduates looking for work. He received a degree in international media with a minor in history from American University on May 7, plans to start a charity in his native Romania and preps for interviews with prospective employers.
That means he rarely leaves the basketball court.
Six days each week, American assistant coach Lamar Bennett puts Moldoveanu through workouts at the school or St. John?s College High School. This is how Moldoveanu spends his time in basketball limbo, waiting for his professional career to begin.
Sure, the 6-foot-9 forward averaged 20.4 points per game for American last season and was a two-time All-Patriot League pick. Offers to play in Europe are on the table. But the NBA draft is Thursday in Newark, N.J. Though Moldoveanu isn?t listed in any of the major mock drafts, he?s determined to see if he can catch on with an NBA team.
?It?s overwhelming not knowing where you?re going to end up,? Moldoveanu said. ?But it?s not like, ?Oh, I?m not going to have a job.? ?
Moldoveanu adopted a methodical approach to his quest. Perhaps that comes from his mother, Carmen Tocala, better known as the hard-charging president of the Romanian basketball federation. She?s Romania?s David Stern, quipped one American staffer, referencing the NBA?s irascible commissioner. Moldoveanu describes her as ?kind of a big deal.?
Every day, Tocala and Moldoveanu text or chat. She?s been his harshest critic since he was a youngster on Romania?s national team.
?When I make a shot, I could shoot better,? Moldoveanu said. ?I?ve learned how to take it in a good way, not in a bad way and get mad. ? You do some things right, but you always need to point out things you can do better.?
On his mother?s advice, Moldoveanu decided to table the European offers to pursue the NBA. That hasn?t allowed much down time.
To market himself, Moldoveanu played in the college all-star game at Reliant Stadium in Houston the night before the Final Four. Moldoveanu said he was the only participant doing homework. The Portsmouth Invitational Tournament in Portsmouth, Va., followed. Moldoveanu participated in the NBA?s Eurocamp in Treviso, Italy, from June 11 to 13.
In his spare time, Moldoveanu will play for Romania at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China, from Aug. 11 to 21.
At some point, perhaps, he?ll find time to sleep.
For now, Bennett prepares Moldoveanu for his on-court interviews. Moldoveanu shuns professional trainers. He believes his assistant coaches already know his game, inside and out, and are better positioned than a stranger to strengthen his weaknesses.
Bennett, who figured Moldoveanu would simply hire a trainer, starts with five or 10 ballhandling drills. Next up is shooting on the move, particularly coming off curls or screens. Improving Moldoveanu?s shooting off the dribble, is another focus.
?He?s not going to get more athletic. He?s not going to grow,? Bennett said. ?So, he needs to work on putting the ball on the floor better and finishing in the post against long and athletic guys.?

Review: A film tracks Conan on his comedy tour (AP)
For you fans who can't get enough of Conan O'Brien on his late-night TBS show, and who are game to revisit the tumultuous time when NBC's squeeze play put him out of a job while reinstating Jay Leno at "The Tonight Show," a new documentary film should be right up your alley.
For anybody else, "Conan O'Brien Can't Stop" is simply an engaging, breathless road-trip portrait. It candidly captures the abruptly-unemployed TV host as he embraces a new challenge: mounting and headlining a 32-city concert tour to fill the void and nurse his wounds after he left NBC in early 2010 and, according to the exit deal, was barred from being on TV for six long months.
The film gives its audience a front-row seat for glimpses of the show (wryly titled "The Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour"). It also goes behind the scenes as this seasoned TV veteran reinvents himself for an untried kind of show-biz gig: entertaining paying audiences out in the real world in theater after theater, from coast to coast, missing his wife and kids and lots of sleep ? and, at times, wondering what he had gotten himself into.
Along the way, the film provides fresh insights into the psyche of O'Brien, who, ever since landing on the air at NBC in 1993, has been considered one of TV's nicest, most levelheaded personalities.
"Conan O'Brien Can't Stop" doesn't undermine that image, but instead humanizes it with flashes of bitterness, crankiness and flat-out exasperation on Conan's part.
The miracle is that he doesn't vent more spleen.
"Sometimes I'm so mad I can't even breathe," he says rather mildly as the tour is being hatched. He is still stewing over losing the "Tonight Show" chair to a host who had willingly abdicated eight months earlier. But he decides that hitting the road could be a "sort of positive expression" as he ponders his next TV move.
You see him huddled with colleagues as they send out the first tweet announcing the tour.
"It's 7:20," Conan cracks. "By 7:40 I'll be out of the business."
But no! A "Team Coco" groundswell is in force, and Conan's concerts are quickly selling out.
This, too, makes him nervous: "Nothing motivates you to figure out what your show is like than selling a whole bunch of tickets to it."
They figure it out while you watch. Then the tour begins in Eugene, Ore., with sidekick Andy Richter, Conan's house band and two just-hired backup dancers dubbed The Coquettes.
As O'Brien surveys a seemingly deserted downtown stretch before show time, he muses, "Should I be worried that I'm opening in a town where nobody lives?"
But the hall is packed, and during one snippet of the show, he is seen in a funny, high-energy sendup of "Polk Salad Annie," testifying that growing up for him in Brookline, Mass., was tough, because most residents were upper class "and we were upper-MIDDLE class. It was hell!"
When the show is over, he is visibly relieved. Pumped. And chastened: "I have to do 44 more of those," he observes.
As tracked by director Rodman Flender, the rest of the film charts an odyssey that is full of fun for the performers. At the same time, it's a grueling endurance contest that may cure the film's viewers of any dreams they may have had for their own stardom on the road.
The dramatic arc of the film: Will Conan make it to the finish line?
His obligations seem endless.
In Los Angeles, he's committed to do a private show before the REAL concert.
"Who entertains people BEFORE a show? I'm tired now," he declares.
And later, in his dressing room, he moans, "It's not the show that's gonna kill me. There's this culture of backstage ? I have real friends that I want to talk to, but other people just come in, and I don't even know them."
On a rare day off, he has agreed to make an appearance at the talent show for his Harvard University class on its 25th anniversary.
And near the tour's end, at Tennessee's Bonnaroo festival, O'Brien is seen sweltering as he performs in a tent where the air conditioning is on the fritz.
"In six months, I've gone from hosting 'The Tonight Show' to performing at a refugee camp," he tells the crowd.
After that, he learns that he's expected to introduce other acts at a different show the same night.
"I'm always disheartened when the people that actually made the arrangement are never here," he snaps. "It's always, 'Yeah, yeah, it'll be fine.' And now Jeff's on a plane." He's talking about his longtime producer, Jeff Ross. "I hate Jeff right now."
By tour's end, all is forgiven. Painful memories are mostly healed. The tour has concluded in triumph, and watching "Conan O'Brien Can't Stop," the audience can't help celebrating the victory along with Conan and his troupe: His grand adventure is at an end and a new one ? his TBS show ? will soon be starting.
"I'm ready to go home and drive my kids to school," he says gratefully, then seals his victory with a wisecrack: "Or have my agent drive them to school."
"Conan O'Brien Can't Stop," an Abramorama release, is rated R for mild rude language. Running time: 89 minutes. Three and a half stars out of four.

Playstation Ps3 ? Sony's ?greatest Thing Ever?
I probably shouldn?t have written this review because I won?t tell you anything that you can?t read below but I just received my system a few days ago and I am so excited I feel, like Ron Burgundy, like shouting my love from a mountain-top.
I was never big on video games (exceptions: Grand Theft Auto; Bioshock; Handful of others) and I can?t tell you how this system compares to other video game consoles (although I think all will agree that the games on this system look the best by far). All I can tell you is that GTA and CoD and every other game I?ve played on this system looks great and is tremendous fun.
The blu-rays look amazing, the blu-ray?s upward conversion makes your old dvds look fantastic and if you upgrade to 320 or 500 (as I did) GB, it?s basically a fully functioning computer as well (web browsing could be more user-friendly, but playing movies, music, and storing photos are mostly what people are going to use this thing for).
So? computer, blu-ray player, cd player, video game console for 0 (+ your upgrades, I probably spent another 0 with going to the hard drive upgrade). It?s basically the greatest thing ever made (along with the iPod and Kindle). Just add TV.
One word of advice: Make sure you buy the 5400 rpm hard drives when you upgrade (and you?ll likely want to).
Playstation PS3 ? A System Ahead of Its Time
The Playstation PS3 is a powerhouse of a video game system, but cutting edge graphics and power aren?t always the key to success.
In almost every way the Playstation PS3 is a worthy successor to the PS2. In fact, the only two downfalls and the reason I didn?t give it a perfect score is that: 1st ? It has a relatively smaller selection of (diverse) games, particularly when compared to other systems, and 2nd ? the discontinuing of PS2 support in the later models. I bought a launch 60 GB model off of the internet for that very reason, so I could truly upgrade my Playstation to the next level and have all the relevant features intact. And over time, the Playstation PS3?s library will grow with new titles.
I?ll be honest, I?m a diehard Nintendo fanboy. I used to think I would never touch another system. But then, during the Gamecube era, there was a drought of my favorite genre ? the platformer. At the time, the ?cube only had a small handful available, with only Mario Sunshine to lead the pack. On the PS2 side of things, there were Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, and Sly Cooper. I was given by my brother a used, almost-new PS2 system and experienced the option of an entire new library of titles that had never been available to me before. It was then that I had a weird realization of the blindness that ?ber hardcore fanboyism caused; I had denied myself the experience of great games only because I had wanted to show my ?loyalty? to Nintendo. I still am a Nintendo fanboy (and own every system they?ve ever made), but I?m not ignorant to see that good games exist on all the platforms.
Also, just to throw it out there, it is essential to use a Playstation PS3 with an HDTV (preferably 1080p). Anything else is a disservice to capabilities of the system; its true potential is only unlocked with High Definition.

LightSquared announces 'solution' for GPS issue, says LTE network will roll out on schedule
LightSquared may have steadfastly insisted otherwise, but recent tests showing that its wholesale 4G LTE network interferes with GPS have been getting tough for it to ignore, and it turns out the company has been quietly working on a backup plan. In addition to fessing up that one of the 10MHz blocks used by its network does indeed interfere with many GPS receivers, LightSquared has also now announced a two-fold "solution" to the problem. That will involve it using only a lower block of the 10MHz spectrum that it says doesn't interfere with GPS (with a few "limited" exceptions), and a new agreement with Inmarsat that LightSquared says will let it "accelerate the schedule" to begin using the alternative block of spectrum. Those new measures, LightSquared says, will let it roll out its network in accordance with its original business plan, and give it enough spectrum to serve its customers for the "next several years." What happens after that is a bit less clear, but LightSquared says it believes its network can "live harmoniously, side-by-side, with GPS users," and that "enlightened and responsible spectrum management will give the American public the best of both worlds." 7 New Species of Mice Discovered on Remote Mountain (LiveScience.com)
Seven new forest mouse species have come out of hiding on Luzon, the largest island of the Philippines, researchers announced Monday (June 21).
The discovery of the new species, which reside only on a small part of the island, has increased the number of Luzon's native mammal species, excluding bats,?to 49.
Observations of each mouse's morphology as well as genetics suggest the seven newbies are part of a new subgenus called Megapomys, which is part of the genus Apomys. These mice are relatively large, weighing less than a half pound (65-110 grams) and sporting tails that are as long as, or slightly shorter, than the length of the animal's body and head.
Two of the newly found species live on Mount Tapulao in the Zambales Mountains, two live on Mount Banahaw, an active volcano in the Philippines, while another two species reside in the Mingan mountains of the Aurora Province and another species in the Sierra Madre mountain range of northeastern Luzon. "These are wonderful little mice that live in forested regions high in the mountains. Although they are often abundant, they actively avoid humans and rarely cause any harm," said project leader Lawrence Heaney of The Field Museum in Chicago. "They prefer to eat earthworms and seeds on the forest floor," said Heaney, who is the lead author of the article published in the May 2011 issue of the journal Fieldiana.
Philippines officials and researchers alike point out that the findings highlight the need to protect mountain forest habitats against logging, agricultural expansion and illegal mining activities.
"Although small in size, these little animals are part of our biodiversity, which forms the basic foundation of healthy ecosystems," said Romeo Trono, country executive director of Conservation International-Philippines.

'Jackass' star Ryan Dunn dies in Pa. crash (AP)
PHILADELPHIA ? Police say "Jackass" cast member Ryan Dunn has died of injuries sustained in a car crash in suburban Philadelphia.
West Goshen Township police say Dunn and a passenger in his 2007 Porsche died early Monday after the car left the roadway and burst into flames. The crash occurred near the Philadelphia suburb of West Chester.
Authorities say speed may have been a factor.
Dunn appeared on the MTV show that ran from 2000 to 2002 and its three big-screen adaptations. Most recently, he hosted "Proving Ground" on the G4 cable network.
A phone message left for Dunn's manager wasn't immediately returned.
Police say the passenger must still be identified.

Your final goal when using this process though is to use the incentives program to show the kid how rewarding the accomplishments are all when they can do it by themselves. When they are able to feel how rewarding it can be to do well in school, the incentive for finishing the homework will be solely the high marks in school.
So what is the summary?
1 . Create a regimen for your child by identifying the time and location where they will do his or her homework.
2 . Create a focused area where the child will do their homework every day and make sure the location is silent, properly lit, complete with supplies, and void of distractions.
3 ; Keep the homework sector organized and neat so that the kid will really feel encouraged when it should be time to do their homework.
4 . Start the homework with them in order to get their mind starts going.
5 . If everything else does not work, create some incentives for them to complete the homework, just right so they could taste the fruits of his or her good grades.
It will be likely that you will have to look for different methods to make homework fun for your child. It is surely rewarding though because homework does make a significant part in his or her overall success while in school.

Transferring iTunes etc from Old to new computer and iPhone
This has probably been asked many times before.
My original laptop died and has been replaced with a new laptop.
?I have installed the latest version of iTunes on the new laptop. I then transferred my music library in from a backup.
My next step was going to be transferring some new songs to my iPhone 4, but was unable to .
?I then got the "Erase and Sync message" - does this erase all info e.g. contacts, photos, as well as music, videos and apps from my iPhone?
?Is there an easy way to transfer without losing all my apps and information?

Spa Week Daily: Why how did the spa come to be known as world-renowned Golden Door?
Jennifer Hart: Golden Door Spa is the first-ever fitness spa noted for devotion to the balance of body, mind & spirit with one of the most inspiring, innovative and high-energy programs in the spa world today. It has a rich history that starts in 1959, when Deborah Szekely realized her dream of creating a transformational Zen-influenced spa, serving a small number of guests with a 4:1 ratio. She was a pioneer in comprehensive wellness and other spas have looked to Golden Door for inspiration and education. It received a lot of praise from Hollywood because actors came to Golden Door to renew & revitalize before a big movie role.
Is there a secret history/background to Golden Door that the general public in unaware of?
It all started with Deborah Szekely and her husband, Edmond Szekely with the founding of Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Baja California. They learned a lot by starting there as a health camp, pitching tents for $17.50 back in the 40?s. Things of course grew into what Rancho La Puerta is today and then Deborah decided to create a more luxurious and service-oriented spa, along with a comprehensive & progressive fitness program. Many Hollywood producers and directors stayed at Rancho La Puerta and they were excited for Golden Door Spa, which was closer and where they received much more service and pampering. Hollywood studios and managers paid for actors to get fit and become rejuvenated at Golden Door and most of the early guests came from Hollywood.
Where did the actual, physical Golden Door come from? Who created/crafted it? Was it a gift, a splurge?
The physical Golden Door was made in Tijuana, Mexico. Deborah knew of a woman who made brass boxes there and was directed to an artisan. Deborah did a sketch on butcher paper and the artisan hammered the brass & copper design of two intertwining trees ? the Tree of Life. Semi-precious stones were added and the golden door, which stands over 50 years later, was created.
Tell us about Deborah Szekely and the ancient Honjin inns of Japan? How did Japanese culture end up in SoCal?
Deborah was very interested in Zen philosophy. She read many books on it and also loved gardening, which interested her in Japanese gardening. As soon as she realized she wanted to create Golden Door, she immediately knew it would be a replica of a Japanese Honjin Inn. The philosophy of honjin inns and Golden Door is the same ? renewal. Deborah went with architect Robert Mosher and stayed in Japan for several months, bringing back an understanding and commitment to Japanese design. All sculptures and pieces within Golden Door are authentic, dating back to the Edo period. The property is a living antique. Takendo Arii from Japan (who moved to the states) designed the four courtyards ? Azalea, Bell, Camellia and Garden that incorporate Japanese philosophy and tradition.
What can one expect during a traditional 7-day stay at the resort?
Guests arrive on a Sunday and follow a program of daily fitness activities, hikes, massages, meditation, spa treatments and stretching created expressly for their needs and wishes. No two guests? programs are alike ? each guest receives a consultation and guidance with an assigned personal fitness specialist. Most clothing is provided, so guest never need to worry about what to wear. Each day develops a remarkable rhythm, thanks to the Door?s philosophy of balance and rejuvenation.
There are also presenters that visit each week with leading-edge information and education on health & wellbeing. We have specialty weeks such as: Healthy Nutrition; Healthy Sleep w/our Nutrition Advisor Dr. Wendy Bazilian, Writing from the Soul w/Anya Ushakova-Crain, Culinary Week w/Executive Chef Curtis Cooke, Yoga Week w/Madhu Nanda, Pilates Week w/Karena Thek Lineback, Labyrinth w/Lauren Artress & Water Week w/water-inspired fitness activities. San Diego is known for great climate and this location for Golden Door enables guests to be outdoors a lot. Other spas may be within four walls, but a majority of our program is connected to nature and breathing in fresh air. It is also geared to empowering our guests. Golden Door Spa is set among a mountain landscape where important hikes are taken daily by guests. Being outdoors, enjoying the lush greenery and climbing the mountain are important components of our program. The first thing many of our returning guests do is a morning hike. Jeter limps toward first base, leaves game (AP)
NEW YORK ? Yankees star Derek Jeter limped out of Monday night's game with a sore right calf in the fifth inning, stalling his pursuit of 3,000 career hits.
There was no immediate word on the severity of his injury.
Jeter singled his first time up against Cleveland for his 2,994th hit. He looked fine when he grounded out the next time up and seemed to be having no problems at shortstop.
But the New York captain looked to be having trouble as soon as he hit a fly to right field in the fifth. He was limping with his first step out of the batter's box ? he wasn't totally hobbled, though it was noticeable ? and jogged down the line. He touched first base after the ball was caught, returned to the dugout and left the game.
Eduardo Nunez replaced Jeter to start the top of the sixth. There was a slight murmur in the crowd at Yankee Stadium when the public-address announcer told fans that Nunez was the new shortstop.
Jeter is trying to become the 28th player in major league history to reach 3,000 career hits, and the first to do it while playing for the Yankees. Teammates and fans and even Jeter himself had said it would be nice to achieve the milestone at home.
The Yankees have three games against Texas remaining on the current homestand. Then they go on a six-game road trip to Wrigley Field in Chicago, and Cincinnati.
The 36-year-old Jeter had been in a pronounced slump to start the season but had been showing more flashes of his All-Star form in recent weeks.
