Genealogy Library to offer workshops and ... - Family Tree Gazette

The SWLA Genealogical and Historical Library, 411 Pujo Street, will host three summer workshops on genealogy research methods for novices and intermediate genealogy researchers. The classes are free and open to the public.

Beginning Genealogy Part I, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, June 16, is an introduction to Genealogy and the Genealogy Library. Students will learn how to get started and how to use the library resources, equipment, books. Microfilm and computers to research family backgrounds.

Part II, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, July 21, will cover organizing and preserving records of your family and ancestors.

Part III, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, August 18, will be a demonstration of the electronic resources available at the library and at home for Calcasieu Parish residents. Those who attend this workshop will be invited to hands-on computer workshops on August 23, 24 and 25.

Other programs of interest at the Genealogy Library are the Tidbits of History programs at 10 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. The following are the topics and presenters for the summer months.

?WW II German Prisoners of War in Calcasieu Parish, July 5, by Mike Jones.

?Grabow Incident of 1912, August 2, by Dr. Keagan LeJeune, author of Always for the Underdog: Leather Britches Smith and the Grabow War.
