The ninth-seeded Manhattan school scored five runs in the first inning, taking advantage of the short dimensions at Field No. 27 to hit a pair of two-run homers off MSIT starter Pasquale Montemarano. Beacon added a run in the second and two in the third to cap the scoring. ???

We knew they were a pretty good hitting team,? said MSIT coach Mike Grippo, whose squad dropped an 11-7 first-round decision to Beacon at Randall?s Island last year. ?Pasquale knew to mix it up and keep his pitches down.
